Citta Di Castello

This is my first blog post for four days. Something I ate has caused a few problems and I woke feeling quite nauseous and in need of the loo! I decided to settle my stomach with some stewed apple and yoghurt and for the rest of the day just drank bottled water.

For our first day here in Umbria (actually right on the border with Tuscany) we settled on a walking tour of Citta Di Castello. This is the nearby town where Rob and Jane have their language school. Also, one of their cars needed a new handbrake cable fitted and Jane had to work at the school. Because they are both speak fluent Italian, we are getting a crash course in pronunciation, mostly of place names. It takes some getting used to but the rules are reasonably straightforward.

We had a walk around the town and Rob pointed out the major architectural highlights. This town has two Saints both of whom have a combined tomb in the local church. They also have their own version of a leaning tower (pictured below).

We were also admiring the local theatre from outside but Rob apologised saying that it was never open for visitors to view. Suddenly a shutter sprang open above us and a local guy asked if we would like to see inside! We jumped at the chance and were let in to see it in all its glory.

After our tour we retired to a local bar to wait for Jane (most of the classes they run are in the evening). Rob and Miriam had a drink and a few nibbles while I sipped on my bottle of water. We were planning on finishing the evening at a restaurant on the way back to Casa Tersalle but, in the event, I started feeling worse again so we opted to head home. The others had a salad for tea while I had more water and an early night!
