Sunday in Brampton

With no specific plans today, we had a day at home.

Miriam caught up on our washing and we planned our route south to Shrewsbury. We head off on Tuesday and will drive through the eastern side of The Lake District via Ullswater and Windermere. On the way we will visit an Arts&Crafts house (Blackwell House) which was the holiday home for Sir Edward Holt and is considered 'a masterpiece of the 20th century'. From there it's east to Kendal to join the M6 so we can cruise at 75mph to our overnight Airbnb accommodation.

In the afternoon, Michael and I headed off for a short walk up to some cairns on Talkin Fell, a hilltop with views of the surrounding area. We were up in the heather country with just dry stone walls, a few horses and the odd cattle beast for company. About a 6km round-trip (about one round of golf!) so we were ready for a beer when we got back.

We then spent a quiet evening after dinner listening to Richard Burton reading 'Under Milk Wood'. Miriam heard most of it but did snooze off in the latter stages. The recording was one I had 'mp3'd and had on my phone from the Brockway family vinyl records which date back to the early 60's.
