Simply Dylan

Still in Newcastle, we headed off to The Sage Theatre in Gateshead.

The Sage looks like a giant armadillo (the locals call it The Slug) and they also have a cycle/footbridge across the river called the Millenium Bridge. This tilts to let tall boats through but we weren't there for one of the regular 'tiltings'. This is their cultural centre and we had tickets for Simply Dylan.

Simply Dylan is a concert by John O'Connell and his fellow musicians. He is a Liverpudlian who plays tribute to Bob Dylan and does a great job. Check out www.simplydylan.com for more details. Michael joined us after work (he works nearby in central Newcastle) and we had dinner at The Sage before the concert started at 8pm. I tried the local 'stottie' which is basically a soft bun filled with, in my case, pulled beef and gravy. Served with the obligatory chips. Miriam was over the bread and chip stodge so opted for a Caeser (it was ok, but with no egg or croutons). We finally got back to Brampton at around 11pm. A long day.

Driving back towards Carlisle was no problem but I really noticed the lack of roadside reflectors to give me an idea of the road ahead. It's difficult to decide whether the road ahead is straight without the familiar gold and silver reflectors to indicate left or right curves coming up.
