We had a 'Full English' in a nearby cafe and some decent coffee so were ready for our day's sightseeing and the drive to Brampton to stay with Barbara.
The first thing to do was check out Scarborough Castle. This stands on a massive promontory of rock overlooking the entire area. It was a bit of a walk up to it but our host Sarah said we should drive up (they say in the brochure there is no car parking on-site) and park in the nearby church car park. This was good advice and there were plenty of spaces to park since it was a Monday morning. The drive up was via a couple of very steep cobbled streets and we parked not far from Ann Bronte's grave.

Once again our NZ Heritage pass got us in for free so we definitely got our moneys worth by joining before we left home.
The site of the castle and the castle itself is magnificent with great views over Scarborough. The castle Keep was badly damaged during the Siege of Scarborough in 1644.
There is also the remains of a Roman signal station which they used to warn of approaching raiders.
